Jade
had surgery on 17 March 2003 (30 yrs old) to remove
a large, cancerous tumor. During the operation it
was discovered there were dozens of tumors, ranging
in size from a large cantaloupe to microscopic size.
The surgeon removed as many as he could and the rest
were left inside his body. On 19 March 2003 Jade and
Tanya were told the doctors believed he would not
live. On 2 April 2003 Jade was diagnosed with Desmoplastic
Small Round Cell Tumors, an extremely rare but aggressive
form of cancer. Jade endured many rounds of chemotherapy
and a stem cell transplant in July 2003. There were
no signs of the tumors until February 2004. More chemotherapy
has followed throughout the summer and fall of 2004.
This website is a history of their journey as a family
as Jade, Tanya and their son, Garrett, try to live
and survive with cancer rather than simply die of
cancer.
