Headstone

"Man is not destroyed by suffering; he is destroyed by suffering without meaning." - Victor Frankl

Hey there. It's Sunday night and I wanted to give you an update. Jade's headstone was set on Friday. Jade and I have been working on this headstone for almost a year and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. The pictures may be too big (hope nobody's computer expodes) but I wanted you to be able to see the writing and artwork. Just in case you can't read it very well I'll include the text.

Everything on the headstone is quite symbolic. From the two types of granite, to what is left smooth and what is left rough, to the angle of some of the cuts, to the text and artwork. On the side bases is his AG Chief's badge, a motorcycle, a drum and a Chinese symbol. On the front are our names and in the center is the Salt Lake Temple with our wedding date and Garrett's name listed below. On the bottom front is the phrase/title I dubbed us with once we got engaged. I told Jade we would be "One of the Greatest Loves of All Time." On the base in back are joined hearts and the personal inscriptions from our wedding bands.

On Jade's side he wrote,

Salvation is a gift for those who possess a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Alma 7:11-12

Yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.

Honesty lies in our motives not in our actions

But if not

Timshel

Willing Submission

Tell it not

Beware of it

Charity, Courage, Determination, Duty, Faith, Fidelity, Grace, Gratitude, Honesty, Honor, Hope, Humility, Intergrity, Kindness, Leadership, Love, Loyalty, Meekness, Patience, Peace, Perserverance, Sacrifice, Service, Strength, Trust, Truth

On the center part he put other quotes and sentiments which were extremely important to him:

The hands of time are holding me and you

I can only imagine

It is not the critic that counts...... Teddy Roosevelt

I am an optimist....Never, never, never give up. - Winston Churchill

I would give my life for the simplicity on the other side of complexity. (and also by the same man) The law is the gun on the policeman's hip. - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft. - Teddy Roosevelt

Jade asked what I wanted on my stone in back and I told him I was unfortunately, fairly certain I'd have fifty to sixty years to figure that out and I'd leave it blank for now. So, that's part of the explanation of the headstone. As I said, I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

How are Garrett and I doing? Overall, ok. There are moments that ache like nothing else, but at the same time we have so much to be grateful for. We're extremely blessed and feel we are being watched over by friends and family members seen and unseen. As hard as some moments are, we still have underlying peace. Thank you for your friendship and kindness. We have amazing friends, neighbors and family members. Please know of our gratitude and the positive impact you have had and continue to have on our family.

"To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides." - David Viscott

Take care and we'll keep you posted on how we're doing.

With love .............................. Tanya.
