Louis & Victor

"...Yet I had lived long enough to know that nothing lasts forever, and men torture themselves who believe that it will. The one law that does not change is that everything changes, and the hardship I was bearing today was only a breath away from the pleasures I would have tomorrow, and those pleasures would be all the richer because of the memories of this I was enduring."

- Flagan Sackett (as written by Louis L’amour Galloway p.46 1970)

Well, here we go - - on with the rest of our lives. Still really fighting this cold (it's hanging on) but trying to get some rest. I figure it took two years to get this exhausted and depleted, so it'll take some time to get energy and reserves built back up. It's hard trying to find the balance of playing with Garrett to help him feel secure, time for the necessary paperwork which needs to get done, time for me to stare off into space or read Jade's journal or cry or have some candy/treats that I only get out once Garrett has gone to bed (first of all, I don't want to share and second of all, too much candy isn't good for kids.)

The above Louis L'Amour quote was one of Jade's favorites. When cancer came the first time in 2003 we had it framed and put on our bedroom wall. I sat on the bed reading it last night amazed at the paradoxes life gives each of us. I thought Saturday's service went really well. Jade would be honored. Everything was done so well. Very grateful for the love from friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members and all the statewide law enforcement agencies for their efforts too. I will treasure those tender, emotional memories for a lifetime.

I figure I'm going to keep emailing to let friends/family members/etc know how Garrett and I are doing but feel free to delete or be removed from the update list if you've had enough of us the past two years!

We've gotten some photos already from Saturday and there are some fantastic shots. I'll send a couple soon and have a couple posted on Jade's website.

"Sorrow is a fruit. God does not allow it to grow on a branch that is too weak to bear it." - Victor Hugo

Jade loved both Louis L'Amour and Victor Hugo so I guess it's fitting they're the quotes for today's email. Thank you for everything. Please know of our gratitude. We'll let you know how the rest of the week goes and and how we're doing. Keep passing the Kleenexes around though.
