Arrrrrrrr!

"What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step."      - C. S. Lewis

When I ran across that quote the other day I thought of how true that was for me/us this year.   People sometimes ask how I do it and I usually joke that I just get up out of bed, get ready and go about the day because I'm too stupid to know any other way.   (However, I do lose it at the end of some of those days and cry my eyes out after Garrett's in bed.)   But, honestly C.S. Lewis put it much better than I.   You just take a step ..... and then another.   Most days are ok, but there are those days when you get up in the morning and say, "Just make it to lunch" and then at lunch you think, "Make it to dinner" and then at dinner you think, "Home stretch....make it to bed time."

I can't believe it's been a month since my last update.   Time is flying by.   We've had a nice October.   We took a couple rides up the canyon by our house to look at the deer in the evening/dusk and gather leaves and acorns.   We came home with a full sack each time.   Garrett also threw in some rocks and sticks too.    We have ended up with about 14 pumpkins on the porch from the garden.   Most have been painted by Garrett and a couple by me.   It's been his favorite evening activity - -  paint pumpkins.   Did the last one tonite.

The highlight of the month was our trip to Disneyland.  We went for four days with my parents.   It was a lot of fun, but as always, bittersweet.   I was losing it bad as we checked into the hotel, on a couple rides and other moments that reminded me of our trips there last Nov and Dec.   But, Garrett loved it!   Disneyland is magical.

Garrett is going to be a pirate for Halloween tmrw.   One of his souvenirs from Disney was a pirate hat with his name on it and a Pirates of the Caribbean T-shirt.   I got a T-shirt too so I guess more aptly, we're going as pirates tmrw.  Garrett has the hook, eye patch, pirate hat and treasure map (on the candy sack) and I'll be in my red bandana, dagger, gold earring, eye patch and a parrot on my shoulder (thanks for the props Z & J.)   Arrrrr.   Hand over the candy or walk the plank.

I'm attaching two pictures.   One of us at Disney and the other of Garrett before his preschool party last Thurs.   I thought he was an adorable pirate but there's nothing cuter than a pirate with a blue backpack heading off to preschool.

As much as I'm not doing cartwheels over the holidays approaching, Garrett is so excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  So, as nice as October has been, I'm ready to get on with the holiday festivities in Nov and Dec and just push through Jan too.   Not excited, but there's no way around it.

"God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.   There is no such thing."      -  C.S. Lewis

Hope you all have a very Happy Halloween.   Arrrrrr!  Be on the look out for pirates hunting candy - - well, chocolate at least.   Thanks for all your love and continued support.
